CHRISTIANE BLATTMANN
In residency from September 10 to December 21, 2019.

Born in 1983, Stuttgart (GE). Lives and works in Brussels (BE) and Hamburg (GE).

Taking quotidian surroundings such as architecture, urban design or fashion as departure, Christiane Blattmann's sculptural practice aims to dissolve clear disciplines of creation and challenges the autonomy of those fields. Her works are less hybrids of art and vernacular, but more thinking-figures designated as art-objects. Blattmann (inter-)weaves, ties, nets, connects - she creates convoluted joints of things, relations and characters. Her objects elude themselves of normative definitions - dissolving appears as "aesthetic strategy".

Christiane Blattmann graduated from Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg in 2013. She has recently exhibited at Neuer Essener Kunstverein, The Community (Paris), Kunsthaus Hamburg, Damien & The Love Guru (Brussels), Oracle (Berlin), Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, and run a radio station at MoMA PS1, New York. She is part of the artist lead publisher Montez Press. She recently present her first solo show in an institution at Kunsthalle Münster in 2019.

Christiane Blattmann is supported by the Goethe Institut Marseille during her residency.
